Artist's Statement
I use landscape and the figure as primary subjects. Both can have an “out of time” quality which transcends the moment along with encouragement for a viewer to go a bit beyond themselves, if only for a moment. Artists brashly attempt to come to grips with the nature of Nature and with luck, are able to add to those understandings their own view, certain emotional elements, and magical colors pretending to be light. I believe a successful painting is one that provokes and pushes us beyond our likes and our tastes. It may soothe, it may irritate. And it should reflect some of the ambiguity and relative truths which make up our lives.
