Goings-On

The Willamette Art Center is Salem's only community art studio. We welcome everyone to come in and experience art.

Our Equipment and Supplies

We specialize in the Ceramic Arts. This medium requires a lot of large, specialized equipment that is not easily accessible for the average person. Our students and members have ready access to:

  • Electric pottery wheels
  • Kick wheel
  • Electric, gas, and Raku kilns and firing services
  • Variety of colors of cone 6, cone 10, and Raku glazes
  • Selection of white, red, buff clay for purchase
  • HUGE collection of plaster molds
  • Slipcasting bench
  • Large Slab Roller
  • Wall-mounted Extruder with large set of dies
  • Canvas work tables for handbuilding
  • Meeting/class room suitable for Birthday Parties and more
  • Sales gallery featuring our members' artwork

Raku Firing at the WAC

We offer Raku Firing during our scheduled Raku class (usually on Mon or Wed nights--see class schedule for details). Up to three loads will be fired per night, as needed.

All are welcome to bring their Bisqued pottery for Raku Firing.

  • Firing is free for current Students and Open Studio Pass holders.
  • For members of the Friends not currently enrolled in the Raku class, Firing Fees are $5 per kiln or $15 per evening.
  • For nonmembers, Firing Fees are $10 per kiln or $30 per evening.

If you have a lot of pieces to fire, you may need to set up a private firing at another time. Contact us for more information!
